Welcome! The Garden Jane team is preparing for a special year, with an April baby on the way to inspire new program innovations and partnerships around healthy food and gardens in the GTA. We'll continue to offer kid and family events and activities, as well as do some in-the-ground garden demonstrations and adult workshops. Some of the fun to be had: healthy baking for Parkdale youth; a new all women's worm bin workshop (learn carpentry skills while building your own worm bin or garden storage bench!); a gardening and yoga workshop for new moms and their babies; weekend farm workshops and health promotion garden tours. And we're just getting started. Check out our upcoming schedule for happenings and dates and see our programs for groups.
Another development lately is the evolution of Garden Jane's winter discussion group into a project leadership group. This year's Food Not Lawns group started meeting last November. After a winter of learning and sharing, the group is looking at ways to apply collective learning and skills to some local projects. Two projects that are in the design stage include: public outreach and education around urban soil health; and enhanced permaculture demonstration gardens at the High Park Children's Garden. We'll keep you posted as these unfold or you can drop by and meet some of the group at Seedy Saturday (on a Sunday!) on Feb 21st.
The intern program is going strong too, with twelve interns and past interns collaborating on projects ranging from circus play to leading workshops to launching new businesses. The team is tremendously creative, offering energy and support to hundreds of people in gardens and communities across the GTA and beyond. (We recently did the math and realized that we'd reached 2700 people last year, up 35% from 2009!)
We look forward to seeing you in a garden, kitchen, community gathering or farmer's market sometime soon.
Garden Jane is a community-oriented business offering healthy food and garden education and recreation for people of all ages.
