ACTIVITIES for children, youth and families
We offer activities at schools, farmer's markets, festivals and events. Activities are usually about gardening, healthy food, or what we find in gardens and nature. We especially love fairy gardens, seed balls, blending gardening with story telling, growing and making food, and getting into the mysteries of soil with kids. We have special programs for babies, toddlers and parents that focus on giving young ones great early development opportunities in safe and engaging garden settings. We design activities to meet special needs. See the schedule for what's coming up. Contact us if you'd like us at your event.

ADULT EDUCATION
Workshops
and discussion groups for new gardeners, advanced gardeners / farmers and educators. Our fall discussion group topic is soil and soil health. We'll read Teaming with Microbes: A Gardener's Guide to the Soil Food Web by Jeff Lowenfels and Wayne Lewis, excerpts from Mycellium Running: How Mushrooms Can Help Save the World (Paul Stamets), and meet a local soil expert. This group is for people interested in developing leadership and technical skills around food security, community gardening and food growing. Organic farmers welcome to offer food trade / attend free.

We offer workshops on many topics, including:

EVENT PLANNING and SUPPORT
We help deliver indoor and outdoor events (or enhance yours) with community or professional talent, local/organic food, garden and sustainable living education, minimal waste and lots of laughter. Garden Jane's network of event-makers includes gardeners, educators, community cooks and chefs, artists, musicians, dancers, clowns, puppeteers and alternative health practitioners. One of our favourite projects is Cirque Dirt a down-to-earth circus event that brings people together to enjoy music, performance, healthy food, earth lessons and circus spirit. Contact us if you'd like us at your event.

PROGRAMS for groups

Looking for something engaging to do with your group? Need help developing your program or a piece of land? We design programs and help run them if you like. Available this season:

Bean Keepers - for schools and community groups (free, all ages)
This is a national project of Garden Jane, Evergreen and Seeds of Diversity that includes free beans for public gardening groups, a children's story, an opportunity for schools to sign up for funding, lesson plans (linked to Ontario curriculum) and a beans song. Listen to the song at bottom of this page. E-mail us for a free MP3 file or download it for $1 at i-tunes (search Jerome Godboo).

Gardiner Museum - Stories of Food and Gardening Through Clay (all ages)
This 1.5-2 hour program is available to groups of all ages with an interest in food. We start with a tour of the Gardiner Museum's gallery to learn about the history of food and gardening through clay and ceramic arts. Groups then make their own clay pieces for home or garden in the Museum's clay studio. Curriculum linked for school groups. For info and to book, contact us.

Starting a Garden Program (for those adding gardening into the mix)
We help you to: determine your goals; design a program that engages people; implement the garden. Includes garden workshops, hands-on demonstrations of great activities, and site advice that is tailored to your needs. Aiso includes resources, some plant material, supplier and program contacts, and advice through the growing season. For more info, contact us.
